BOUCHEE BOSTON BACK BAY
159 NEWBURY ST.
617-450-4343

One of my weakness' is French cuisine and I must say that Bouchee has truly spectacular food and not nearly as expensive as some other places in Back Bay! However, the restaurant is large and very busy with an open floor plan on two levels with a real brasserie flair to it! I happen to enjoy dinner at the bar where you can still enjoy the entire menu. The dinning rooms upstairs and down offer excellent service in a very attractive setting. I would suggest reservations and valet parking is available!

Simple inexpensive good Italian food with a cozy and funky tavern-like setting. The wait can be long but the portions and prices certainly make up for it! Try the chicken parmesan, meatball sandwich or linguini with clams in white sauce. Grace and I happen to really appreciate the thin and crispy pizza and salad. Reservations and valet parking not available.

The appetizers are delectable including some of the most delicious mussels in a light garlic cream sauce to dip your bread. For dessert try the gateaux au chocolat! Reservations a must! In my opinion the "hippest" place in town! Spread out over two levels in an old theatre at the Boston Center for The Arts in the heart of the South End. Live music nightly and very funky...perfect for the artsy crowd, but also a favorite for locals as well. The menu is one of the most eclectic from small plates to full meals. A very large bar and the largest outside dining cafe behind the building which is perfect because it gets very loud. Reservations highly recommended or you might have to wait in line for quite some time. Valet parking is available.

Two of the hippest and most popular spots in Boston offering very late night menu. The food is under-priced for such an extremely inventive chef with a menu that changes regularly throughout the year. Those of us who love this restaurant go a few times a month for one of our all time favorites. The South End would be lacking without this one! Dinner served till 1pm and it can get crowded and loud on any given night.  Reservations and valet parking are not available. I haven't yet been to their new place in Ipswich.

Although many restaurants claim to be a bistro this place is the real thing. "In France, a bistro is where blue collar workers go to eat home style fare at very modest prices; it is often served on bare wood or paper-topped tables with draught beer or vin ordinaire." The food is terrifically French and so is the service, ambiance and prices along with the daily specials that are superb. Chef /Co-Owner Jacky Robert, "whose career and reputation are well-known to both Boston and west coast diners (click).
