You should schedule your move as soon as you feel comfortable, although you may want to wait until your Purchase & Sales Agreement is fully executed. However in an effort to avoid a very large problem, please speak with your legal counsel prior to scheduling the moving company to verify the closing time. Essentially, the seller (or the current occupant) along with their belongings must be vacated and "broom cleaned" prior to the scheduled closing date and time. The buyer customarily obtains possession and/or access directly after the actual closing. I will be scheduling a walk-thru for the buyer just prior to the closing time. Sellers should leave all additional sets of keys (including the mailbox key) on the kitchen counter, and deliver one set to the listing agent or your attorney!
It is very important to note that moving companies are booked well in advance! Most moving companies may want to view the property prior to your price quote and may require direct access to your new home. If the condominium association is located adjacent to the street, you will need to contact the City of Boston Parking Department for a parking permit during the hours of your move. A nominal fee paid to The City of Boston is required and must be obtained in advance at City Hall.
